Mission. House of Wayward Leatherfolk is an anti-racist Leather house. We work to foster Black Liberation within Leather, BDSM, and Kink communities, spaces, and events. We welcome folk from all cultures and nations, provided they embody (or actively strive to embody) this commitment to Black Liberation as a daily lived practice.

Vision. An energized and engaged Leather House (and family) centering Black Leatherfolk, Leather families, and Leather community in a liberated future.

Founded in 2018, House Wayward is an anti-racist Leather house. 

We center Black Liberation and uplift Indigenous Sovereignty.

In 2017 Miss Shiny and a past founding member of the House attended a panel with several Leatherpersons. During the panel members of the audience repeatedly asked questions like, "How do I get started with a Leather house or family?" Time and time again the answer from the Old Guard (established Leatherpersons who tend to follow more historical traditions) was to do your time and to start at the bottom and work your way into their notice. 

It sounded a lot like the paradox of trying to get your first job - everyone wants you to have experience, but no one wants to give you that experience.

It left Miss Shiny puzzled and wondering how a person could ever successfully navigate this ambiguity. And, how especially could someone not white, deeply opposed to police, the carceral state, and military culture ever succeed in a community whose history is steeped in those very things? 

And so began a series of conversations, each in its essence asking the same question:

What would it mean to establish a Leather house that didn't aspire to be your forever home?

From that question the House of Wayward Leatherfolk was born. It has been a slow journey of design and intention. Along the way we've lost a founding member; welcomed in a new member; and, said hello (and then farewell) to several ducklings, our word for the sweet beings who come to float alongside us for a time, and for whom the construct of a Leather house does not quite resonate.

We're almost ready to welcome new interested folk to our campfire. It's an exciting time!
